Over the Hustle; Embrace the Humble

Six letters.

The difference between ease and exhaustion.

A choice we all have to embrace.

"Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? YOUR LIFE IS LIKE THE MORNING FOG—IT’S HERE A LITTLE WHILE, THEN IT’S GONE. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own PRETENTIOUS plans, and all such boasting is evil." (James 4:13‭-‬16 NLT)

How often might we brag or walk with pride about our own lives and the journals we keep on OUR vision but have we checked in with God?

But if there's one thing this past year has hammered into our psyche it's the uncertainty of our plans and the fleeting nature of life.

As much as we don't want to accept it, nothing on this Earth is guaranteed. That is why we sprint and grow obsessed with grind culture.

You see it's our fear of the end that leads us to boast about tomorrow.

But it's in this bragging that we step outside of the peaceful call of God's plan. The easy flow, that was always apart of the greater picture.

I think for years I afraid of stillness. Too terrified of the idea of “taking it easy” that often I would sacrifice my health, my peace of mind, and many times relationships for the pursuit of what I felt was passion.

I mean if you’re not pushing forward how do you trust that you are indeed going forward?

What I learned I was missing was that in every moment of push and strain, I left myself open to a different kind of disappointment. Fatigue that seemed to be both engineered and maintained by myself. The question of “What I am doing?“ would echo like bad reverb in your 2007 Honda Accord stereo system. Like most of us, when that question reaches a climax we try to combat the worry with action. We push harder, leading to s greater strain on our spirit. It’s in that space of vulnerability that mistakes are made. Remember ambition isn't a sin—it's action without acknowledgment that strays us away.

HUMBLE or HUSTLE

But what about when we release?

What about if we were to instead of gripping our present tightly we open our palms to the possibilities?

A wise friend once painted this image to me…

“When we RELEASE we make space for the MIRACLE”

Let us instead of sprinting to our hustle and grind, let's run to the Father's word and ask for wisdom and direction. That is the most humble thing we can do.

Isn’t it the humble who inherits the Kingdom?

Now being humble ain’t about not having worth or shying away from your brilliance but rather trusting in your promise so much that you can afford to extend you hand.

That’s power.

That is why we ought to flex humble over hustle.
